9:25 pm - Mike Awesome Passes Away

From wrestlingobserver.com

Mike Alfonso, better known as Mike Awesome, was found dead on Saturday evening in the Tampa area according to those close to the family. He was 42.

Friends were coming to his home in Tampa to pick him up and go out Saturday night at about 10:30 p.m. and he never answered the door and found him hanging in the home. It is believed the death was due to suicide pending results of the autopsy.

Mike Awesome was one of the top foreign stars in FMW in Japan, who as a high-flying big man was made ECW champion on two occasions in 1999 and 2000. As champion, he signed with WCW, creating a situation that many feel ended up killing the title as Tazz from WWF was brought back to ECW to win the title, yet at the same time the title was jobbed in WWF.

He worked for a few months with WWF after the collapse of WCW, as well as with All Japan, but had not wrestled in some time. He was working as a realtor at Coldwell Banker at the time of his death.

Fuck :(

3:49 pm - Reunited

The media-loving Johnny Nitro forgave his ex-tag team partner Joey Mercury and, like The Hardys, decided to reunite MNM. Why? In order to accept Jeff and Matt’s open challenge issued at the December to Dismember press conference.

The ECW pay-per-view, live from the James Brown Arena in Augusta, Ga., next Sunday, will be the first time Nitro and Mercury have teamed together since Judgment Day in May when they lost their WWE Tag Team Championship. Still, Nitro believes the chemistry MNM had is still alive and well.

“Every family has differences,” said a smiling Nitro. “Brothers fight; we fight hard, but that’s no big deal to us.”

The wounds from the past have been patched and healed, which has given Mercury a new zest. And with the daunting challenge of taking on the dynamic Hardys, MNM will need all the zest they can get.

“MNM is back for one night only, and the most prolific, young tag team in WWE history will rise again,” said Mercury. “The future is now and the future is looking bright.”

Nitro added, “Mercury and I are there for each other, and when MNM comes back at December to Dismember we’re coming to dismember The Hardys. We’re going to deck the halls with guts of Hardys, fa--la--la--la--la... b--tch.”

On ECW on Sci Fi, and at Survivor Series, The Hardys have proven that they haven’t lost a step in their hiatus. At December to Dismember will MNM live up to their words and do the same?

1:09 pm - Hardys offer open challenge

The Hardys kicked off the ECW December to Dismember press conference in Augusta, Ga. After a brief introduction by Joey Styles, Matt & Jeff Hardy issued an open challenge for any team in the world. The match will take place at the pay-per-view this Sunday. Which team will step up to take one of the most extreme teams in sports-entertainment history?

6:06 pm - ECW and SmackDown to invade RAW?

Just hours before Raw goes live, reports are that all members from all Survivor Series teams will be present in Baltimore tonight. This includes competitors from both ECW and SmackDown. If the rumors are true, it could be a very volatile situation just six days before Survivor Series.

Suspicions were amplified as WWE.com witnessed CM Punk – a member of Team DX – step into a taxi at a downtown Baltimore hotel, and the spotting of the Extreme Giant Big Show at a local restaurant earlier.

Could the ECW World Champion and Survivor Series team captain be in town for tonight’s edition of Raw? What does this mean for the Raw roster on hand at the First Mariner Arena in Baltimore?

8:41 am - Bob Holly receives stitches to this back last night after RVD match

Bob Holly required roughly 24 stitches after his match with RVD on last night's edition of ECW on SCI-FI. The injury came when he suplexed RVD through a table, and the metal frame cut him on his back which caused the huge gash. There are some graphic photos of the injury and the doctors giving Holly treatment on ECW.com by clicking HERE

Who has the most extreme identity? Get inside the heads of the rebellious CM Punk and "The Reject" Shannon Moore. While both Extremists are non-conformists, they couldn't be more different.

11:49 pm - The "New" ECW

well I must say that the debut of the ECW brand was fucking awaful. It was nothing like the old ECW from 1993 til late 2000. This show sucked something awaful. They had more ads and promos than Raw, Smackdown, and WCW combined. Every 2 seconds they would air a ad during a match. There were only 2 and I mean 2 solid matches that aired tonight. Kurt Angle vs. Justin Credible which was no longer than 2 minutes. I think that this match could have been better if it was longer. The other match was the Battle Royal. That was somewhat decent and it was nice seeing some old school ECW guys in the ring again. I was glad that Roadkill was part of that Battle Royal. I was also very pleased with Sabu winning the whole thing. Ummmm I didnt care too much for the opening segment of the show. It was nice seeing RVD with the ECW World Title along with the WWE world title. He looked good with all that gold. I didnt care much for EDGE coming out and ruining that whole segment with RVD. I could give 2 shits about EDGE. I was pleased that segment ended with my man John Cena. Yea thats right, you heard me correctly, John Cena ended that segment by kicking ass and taking names. I was very pleased to Cena whopping some ass. I also thought it was awesome that he knocked out Paul Heyman. After all that happened, the show sucked. People complain about Raw sucking for the first hour or whatever when this show was terriable since it was the debut of the product. I felt I was watching WCW Monday Nitro for the first hour, thats how bad it was. I hope next week it gets better and I also hope that they dont replay what happens at ONS again or what happens on Raw. Thats all this show aired tonight was replays of One Night Stand.

11:31 pm - ECW RETURNS!

Firstly from PWInsider...

WWE has made the decision to bring back Extreme Championship Wrestling as a full time entity and has begun talking with former ECW talent about returning to work for the new version of the legendary promotion. As of right now, WWE is targeting a September return for the promotion. No decision has been made as to exactly how the company will be brought back yet. It's possible that it will take over the present OVW territory, that it will be a promotion that gets matches on the Raw and/or Smackdown promotions or possibly in some other manner. Sources have told us that Paul Heyman and Tommy Dreamer will be booking ECW when it starts up.

WWE has already contacted a number of ECW wrestlers and contracts will be sent out to them this week. The talents are being offered three year deals which consist of a series of one year contracts, with rollover clauses. A number of wrestlers have been contacts so far. We can confirm that WWE has talked with The Sandman, Francine and Balls Mahoney and will be sending contracts out to them this week.

We will have more information on this story later today or tomorrow.

From Meltzer...

In a story reported on earlier today by Pro Wrestling Insider, WWE is indeed bringing back the ECW brand name for merchandising purposes as well as some form of weekly television and house shows.

The decision appears to have been finalized in the past week as several former stars were offered three-year contracts.

Paul Heyman will be in charge of the brand. It is believed this will be a mix of both former ECW wrestlers and new WWE developmental wrestlers.

It is expected this will lead to some significant changes in the WWE television product as well. The company is not looking to add a third day of television taping. It would likely be handled similar to the Superastros deal in the late 90s, with weekly matches taped before either the Raw or Smackdown tapings.

Some quick thoughts...

I hate the thought of matches being taped before RAW/SmackDown, I can understand the reasoning (cost-effective, fear that the ECW name won't sell on a consistent basis) but that'll cheapen the whole atmosphere of an rabid ECW crowd for me.

Plus, I just can't see Vince wanting ECW to appear better than WWE.

Sorry to sound negative, but....

This all happens and Chris Candido is still dead. *sigh*

6:22 pm - ECW: One Night Stand 2006.

I know the former moderator sk3 is MIA, but that doesn't mean this community should die!

So Tazz & Paul Heyman have announced that at the Manhattan Center’s Hammerstein Ballroom on Sunday, June 11, 2006, ECW: One Night Stand 2, will occur, anybody here planning on going? I've heard rumours that this time ECW will have to fight off a WCW contingent, would make sense to see an Eric Bischoff led WCW faction, as I doubt they'll just let ECW run a show, without some form of gimmick.

Some of the old ECW alumni are under contract to TNA (Team-3D, Rhino, Sabu, Raven, etc...) so you can rule them out, however WWE do have a lot of ECW guys in their fold and I have a feeling 'One Night Stand 2006' will be headlined by Rob Van Dam. Expect to see Chris Benoit, Rey Misterio, Tommy Dreamer amongst others. On a personal note, I hope we see the Funker!

sk3 "E-C-W! E-C-W! E-C-W!"

In the early-1990s, the sport of professional wrestling was in need of a change. WWE had a new generation of athletes, but seemed hopelessly out of touch with the real world. WCW received an injection of Hulkamania, but were still years away from a New World Order. Little did anyone realize a small promotion based in Philadelphia could successfully revolutionize the mat game, forever changing what the world thought about professional wrestling.

Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) did all of that and more. The violent, death-defying style which typtified what ECW stood for, became the example which all other wrestling promotions had to follow. Despite not being open for business since 2001, ECW still boasts the most loyal fanbase of any other promotion in the world.

This isn't just any other ECW community. This is YOUR ECW community. Live the revolution all over again. It doesn't have to be a "one night stand." The spirit which embodied ECW from 1992 to 2001 lives on right here, and will live on forever in the hearts of many fans.

Go ahead. Get extreme. You know you want to.
